Welcome to Week 2

Now into Week 2 of the term, the College is most definitely alive with activities, positive energy and learning. Across classrooms, sporting fields, rehearsal spaces and co-curricular programs, students have started the term well through embracing the many opportunities available to them this semester.
NAIDOC Week
Last week we reflected on the importance of NAIDOC Week through prayer and reflection. This year's NAIDOC Week theme,"50 Years of Deadly," marks a significant milestone, celebrating five decades of recognising and honouring the histories, cultures and achievements of First Nations peoples.
As a Catholic school, this theme resonates deeply with our understanding of legacy. We recognise that the communities we enjoy today have been shaped by those who came before us and that we each have a responsibility to contribute to a future embedded in respect, justice and reconciliation. NAIDOC Week reminds us of the importance of listening to First Nations voices, learning from the wisdom of Elders, and building authentic relationships that honour the dignity of every person.
Leukaemia Foundation - World’s Greatest Shave
I had the privilege last week of attending the Year 12 Assembly, where Lara Cicchini from the Leukaemia Foundation presented certificates to the students involved in the World’s Greatest Shave last term and acknowledged the remarkable efforts of our community in raising more than $15,000 for this very important cause.
In speaking to the students, Lara Cicchini highlighted the vital role that fundraising initiatives play in supporting individuals and families impacted by blood cancer. Through practical assistance, advocacy, research and emotional support, the Leukaemia Foundation provides hope and care to those navigating some of life’s most challenging circumstances.
The generosity, compassion and commitment demonstrated by our students, staff and families are a wonderful reflection of our College Values. We are incredibly proud of everyone who contributed to this outstanding fundraising effort and the positive difference it will make in the lives of others. Congratulations to our amazing Year 12 students and College staff for leading this very important initiative.
Plain English-Speaking Award
Congratulations to Year 11 students, Audrey Budiono and Anastacia Kirby, on their outstanding performances in the Plain English Speaking Award (PESA) State Final. Audrey's achievement in being named the Western Australian State Winner is a remarkable accomplishment and will see her represent Western Australia at the upcoming National Final. We are equally proud of Anastacia, who was named StateRunner-Up, an exceptional result in a highly competitive field.
These achievements reflect not only the talent, commitment and courage of both students, but also the strength of the public speaking culture at Corpus Christi College. We extend our sincere thanks to the staff, led by Mrs Taryn Maccallum, who have so generously supported and guided these students, and all those involved in developing public speaking opportunities across the College. Their commitment has helped our students find their voice, grow in confidence and achieve at the highest level.
A reminder to our community that our annual Public Speaking Evening is scheduled for 12 August where students will have the opportunity to share their talents with our broader community. Please see the photo of our wonderful students in the Student Achievements section towards the end of the E-News.
Student Voice
It was with great excitement last week that we invited students from the Junior School to present to members of the College Leadership Team demonstrating how they have interpreted our school wide philosophy of being Ready to Learn. Congratulations to Year 6 students, Fraser B, Mila G and Harper W and Year 4 students Evie N, Eva F and Izzy M, who were selected from across the Junior School to present.
The student presentations formed part of our Junior School Student Engagement Poster Competition, and we were delighted by the overwhelming response which highlighted the thoughtful way they have engaged with what it means to be Ready to Learn each day. A huge thank you to all staff who encouraged participation and to every student who submitted an entry.
Through this initiative, our students have not only demonstrated their artistic talents but also played an important role in helping their peers understand the habits, attitudes and behaviours that support learning and contribute to a positive school culture. Their creativity and insight have helped bring our shared expectations to life, creating meaningful reminders across the Junior School of what it means to be Ready to Learn.
Senior School Inter-House Athletics Carnival
Our Inter-House Athletics Carnival scheduled for Friday this week is a wonderful example of the spirit that makes Corpus Christi College such a vibrant community. The carnival is not simply about results or records; it is about participation, encouragement, perseverance and belonging.
We wish all students participating in this week's Athletics Carnival every success and look forward to seeing our College Values of Courage, Commitment and Compassion on display throughout the day.
We also look forward to our Junior School Inter-House Athletics Carnival scheduled for Week 6 this term.

Dear Parents and Caregivers
As we conclude our first week back, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our Junior School families. It has been wonderful to see our students return with smiling faces, eager to reconnect with friends, embrace new learning opportunities and begin another exciting term together.
Earlier this week, families received my Welcome to Term 3 letter outlining some of the many opportunities that await us this semester. With Book Week's theme of Symphony of Stories guiding our celebrations later this term, we are reminded that every child is writing their own unique story each day through their learning, friendships, faith and acts of kindness.
As author Kate DiCamillo beautifully writes,"Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty. It should be offered as a gift."
This term we look forward to continuing that gift through rich learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of learning.
There is certainly plenty to look forward to over the coming weeks. Students will continue preparing for important milestones in their faith journeys, including the Year 6 Confirmation and Year 3 Reconciliation Sacraments. We will also celebrate Book Week with a special author visit and our annual parade, cheer one another on at the Junior Athletics Carnival, enjoy the Year 5 Retreat, capture another year of memories during College Photo Day and continue coming together through assemblies, prayer celebrations and many classroom learning experiences.
Alongside these exciting events, our teachers remain focused on empowering students to take increasing ownership of their learning. Throughout Semester 2, students will continue setting meaningful goals, reflecting on their progress and using feedback to understand their next steps. These important habits help develop confident, resilient learners who recognise that every challenge is another chapter in their learning journey.
Student Safety Reminder
The safety of our students is always our highest priority.
As the term begins, we kindly ask all families to assist us by following the College's traffic management procedures during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Please observe the signed speed limits, follow all directional signage and avoid parking in the designated drive-through bays. These procedures are designed to ensure the safe movement of students, families and staff during our busiest times of the day.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep every child safe as they arrive at and depart from school.

Pre-Kindergarten 2028
Families with a child who will turn three years of age in 2028 are invited to register their interest in our a 3-Year-Old Pre-Kindergarten program.

Year 7 2029 Entry
The College is currently welcoming enrolment applications for entry into Year 7, 2029.
Families with children currently attending other schools, and who are interested in seeking a place for Year 7, 2029, are encouraged to submit an enrolment application at their earliest convenience.
Kindergarten 2029 Entry
Families with children who are eligible to commence Kindergarten in 2029 are welcomed to lodge an enrolment application at their earliest convenience.
Sibling Enrolments
The Enrolments Team would like to remind families that an enrolment application is required for all siblings seeking entry into any year group. We encourage families to submit these applications promptly to ensure they are included in the enrolment process. As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship and in partnership with the Friends of Corpus, we encourage families to participate in our Uniform Recycling Program. Gently used uniforms can be donated to support sustainability and help other families in our community. Information is detailed below.

Languages Week Specials at the Cafeteria
To celebrate Languages Week in Week 3 (3-7 August), the Cafeteria will be serving two delicious French-inspired specials.
🥪 Croque Madame – a classic French toastie featuring ham, cheese and béchamel sauce, topped with a fried egg. A limited number will be available to order and from the Senior School cabinet.
🧅 French Onion Soup – a rich and warming French onion soup served with a toasted baguette slice topped with melted cheese.
And for those who enjoy Italian favourites, our regular menu offerings continue throughout the term, including pizza, pasta and arancini.

Parish renewal is not a single moment, but an ongoing journey of faith. At Bateman Parish, the Adsumus Initiative continues from July 11 with a strong focus on prayer and discernment in Step Two, inviting parishioners to listen deeply to the movement of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
This spirit of renewal is mirrored here at Corpus Christi College. Prayer is at the heart of daily life, shaping our actions, relationships, and sense of purpose. As a College community, we too are continually discerning how we are called to grow, serve, and respond to God’s presence among us.

This week’s parent resource from Open Parachute explores the positive and negative impacts of social media and offers practical strategies to help children develop healthy online habits. Discover simple ways to foster open conversations, strengthen family connections, and support your child in using technology safely and positively.

The Corpus Christi College community has once again demonstrated the power of Courage, Commitment and Compassion, raising an incredible $15,251 through this year’s World’s Greatest Shave.
Students and staff embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, with participants stepping forward to shave or cut their hair in support of Australians living with blood cancer. The result was not only a series of fresh new looks across the College, but a remarkable fundraising effort that will make a real difference to families facing some of life’s toughest challenges.
Representatives from the Leukaemia Foundation praised the achievement, describing the fundraising total as an outstanding result and expressing their gratitude to every student, staff member and family who contributed.
To put the achievement into perspective, the funds raised by Corpus Christi College could provide a regional family with a home-away-from-home for more than six months while receiving life-saving treatment in a major city.
In addition to the fundraising effort, students also donated their hair, which will be provided to Sustainable Salons as part of the World’s Greatest Shave initiative. The donated hair will be repurposed to support environmentally sustainable programs and community initiatives.
The Leukaemia Foundation was so impressed by the College’s efforts that it has offered to provide certificates of appreciation for participants and assist with a special presentation to recognise the students involved.
This outstanding result reflects the generosity and community spirit that are hallmarks of Corpus Christi College. Through their willingness to give, students have not only raised vital funds but have also brought hope and practical support to Australians affected by blood cancer.
Congratulations to all involved for making such a meaningful impact. Your commitment to helping others is a powerful reminder that together, even small acts of generosity can create lasting change.

Corpus Christi College will be offering Certificate III pathways in Dance and Music, designed for students who are passionate about the performing arts and wish to further develop their skills, creativity and industry knowledge while completing their WACE.
These nationally recognised qualifications are delivered over two years (Years 11 and 12) and provide students with the opportunity to engage in practical, hands-on learning experiences that reflect real-world creative industries.
Current Year 10 students can select these courses as part of their course counselling discussions happening currently. Year 9 students may wish to keep these courses in mind for their future study. These new pathways reflect our commitment to providing diverse and meaningful learning opportunities for students, supporting both academic and creative futures.

Corpus Christi College invites parents and carers to an informative and engaging presentation with Paul Dillon, one of Australia’s leading experts in youth drug and alcohol education.
This evidence-based session will explore the realities of teen socialising, parties, alcohol use and vaping, providing practical strategies to help parents navigate challenging conversations with confidence. Paul will share the latest research, dispel common myths, and offer practical advice to help families support young people in making safe and informed choices.
Open to both Corpus Christi College families and the wider community, this is a valuable opportunity to gain expert insights into the issues facing adolescents today and learn how to respond effectively as a parent or caregiver.
Tickets are free; however, registrations are essential.
We encourage all parents and carers of teenagers to attend this important community event.

Corpus Christi College offers a Learn to Swim Program onsite at the Jennifer Reilly Aquatic Centre. The aquatic centre features a covered and heated 25 metre, eight-lane indoor lap and water polo pool, a separate 12 metre learn-to-swim pool and terrace seating for 180 people. Our Learn to Swim Program is facilitated by Speed With Style, a company who provide a unique approach to swim teaching called Individualised Custom Teaching, which was developed by Dr Nigel Williams in collaboration with head coach and Speed with Style Founder - John Williams.
The Learn to Swim program is available to both Corpus Christi College students and those external to the College.

Looking for a creative and practical after-school activity? After School Sewing Club, run by Corpus parent Ros Watts.
Starting Monday 4 August, these hands-on sessions give students the opportunity to learn new sewing skills, build confidence, express their creativity and create projects they can be proud of. Whether they're picking up a needle for the first time or already love sewing, all skill levels are welcome.

Last term, our Year 12 Chemistry students put their scientific skills to the test at the 2026 WA RACI Titration Competition at Curtin University.
Competing against some of the state's strongest Chemistry students, two Corpus Christi College teams demonstrated outstanding precision, problem-solving and practical laboratory expertise in this prestigious competition.
Designed to challenge students' analytical thinking and technical accuracy, the competition required teams to complete a series of titrations, perform complex calculations and submit their results within a strict timeframe. Both teams rose to the occasion, achieving impressive levels of accuracy and showcasing the high standard of STEM learning at Corpus Christi College.
Congratulations to Sienna Eades, Matilda Herbert, Ellie Tjing, Leo Webb, Oscar du Toit and Aadarsh Sah on their enthusiastic participation and excellent representation of the College.
At Corpus Christi College, opportunities like these empower students to extend their learning beyond the classroom, develop future-ready skills and pursue their passions in Science with confidence.

We are delighted to share the outstanding success of two Corpus Christi College students who competed in the Plain English Speaking Award (PESA) competition on Saturday, 18 July.
Year 11 student Audrey Budiono emerged as the Western Australian State Winner, a remarkable achievement that will see her represent WA at the national final. Audrey will also have the honour of bringing the PESA Shield back to Corpus Christi College, where it will be proudly displayed for the next year.
We are also pleased to acknowledge the outstanding achievement of Anastacia Kirby, who was named State Runner-Up. Anastacia delivered a wonderful performance and deserves great recognition for the dedication, skill and hard work she demonstrates in her role as Public Speaking Captain.
The Plain English Speaking Award is a public speaking competition for students in Years 11 and 12, proudly sponsored by the Australia-Britain Society Foundation. Since its inception in 1977, the competition has provided secondary students with an invaluable opportunity to build confidence, develop their speech-writing skills and refine their public speaking abilities. It promotes the use of clear, effective spoken English, with the state winner progressing to represent Western Australia at the national final.
This is a particularly proud achievement for Corpus Christi College. In 2024, Ruth Vincent was also successful in winning the award, making Audrey's achievement a wonderful continuation of the College's strong tradition of excellence in public speaking.
