Month of Mary

The Significance of May: A Call to Venerate Mary and Pray the Rosary

During the month of May, we are reminded of its special significance in the Catholic tradition as a time dedicated to venerating Mary, the Mother of Jesus. This month holds a unique place in our hearts as we honour Mary for her unwavering faith, her role in the salvation history, and her constant intercession for us.

May is often referred to as the "Month of Mary," and it provides us with a wonderful opportunity to deepen our devotion to her. One of the most powerful ways to do this is through the prayer of the rosary. The rosary is not just a series of prayers, but a meditative practice that invites us to reflect on the key events of Christ's life and Mary's role in them. Each "Hail Mary" is a step closer to understanding the love and sacrifices of Jesus and his mother.

The rosary consists of four sets of mysteries: the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous Mysteries. These mysteries guide us through the pivotal moments of our faith, from the Annunciation to the Resurrection. By praying the rosary, we not only seek Mary's intercession but also strive to emulate her virtues of humility, obedience, and compassion.

We encourage all members of our Corpus Christi College community to take time during this month to pray the rosary, even just once. Whether you are familiar with this devotion or new to it, May is the perfect time to start or deepen this spiritual practice. Praying the rosary can be a source of comfort, strength, and spiritual growth, drawing us closer to Mary and her Son.

If you do not have a set of rosary beads, we are here to help. Please feel free to visit Student Services in the Senior School, where rosary beads are available from Mr. Ramos' Office. We want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in this beautiful tradition and experience the peace and grace that comes with it.

As we honour Mary this month, let us also remember her words at the wedding at Cana, "Do whatever he tells you" (John 2:5). May her example inspire us to live our lives with faith and devotion, always ready to follow the guidance of her Son, Jesus.

May this month of May be a time of spiritual renewal and deeper connection with our faith for all of us.

Warm regards

Mr Damian Ramos
