Creative Adventurers Project

Over the course of the last twelve weeks, some of the Corpus’ shining lights from Year 7 and 8 Academic Excellence have been working on a project that combines their creative flair with an ability to make use of digital technology, a fundamental cornerstone of learning about and interacting with the modern world.

In close collaboration with Mr. Dove, Director of Digital Integration who has played an integral role in the students’ process of discovery, these projects demonstrate a journey of creative spirit where the final product has been the result of encountering and overcoming challenges.

The Three Tales – Animated Short Story

My project goal for this term was to create a story which outlined basic challenges that we come across and different ways of accomplishing these challenges.

For this project, my initial idea was to create a series of short stories upon true events in Corpus. However, this idea came to a standstill because of concerns with time management and difficulties with finding my sources. As a result of this, I thought that it would be best if I could recreate only one short story design but also include animated GIFs, in substitute for all the other stories.

In the production, I used three, individual apps which focused on writing, drawing and animating. I chose Pages for simplicity, Sketches for detail and ImgPlay for filming.

Introduction to DNA

For the Creative Adventurers project, I have created an informative presentation about DNA, labelled ‘DNA: An Introduction’. I created this project solely to inform school students about the amazing thing which is DNA, and I created a presentation to give them all the information about DNA while also being visually appealing. I did face some challenges along the journey, though. At first, I found my idea really quite challenging, and I was not really able to continue along with the project as I was not really sure of my idea or not, but then I had a bit of help from my brother who knows quite a lot about DNA and I was able to keep going. I completed this project on KeyNote, and my experiment video was completed through Apple Clips.

To-do List App

The project I have created for the Creative Adventures is a “To-do List” app design. It is made so that people can stay up to date with their lives and get notified when an event is happening. Originally, I wanted to achieve an app design in Swift Playgrounds that may have a few working functions, but that has changed a lot as my app design is now in Keynote and I have put all my effort into the design, \and didn’t worry about the app being functional (which is something I may work on in the future). What I found challenging was getting a visually appealing design in Keynote and spending hours and hours trying to get everything to standard expected of professional looking app.

Creating a Calendar App

The purpose of my calendar was to create something useful for people to use in their everyday lives. I originally had the idea of a to do list but as I went on with my research, I figured that a calendar would be way better as it’s a more advanced to do list as such. I found out that coding is a time-consuming process that requires a great deal of concentration and application. I must admit that there were times when I felt like quitting. I created my project using an app made by apple called Xcode which is a software development application which uses a language called swift to write code.

Wake - Interactive short story

My project is an interactive short story named Wake, following the narrative of a little girl’s dream. I originally intended to have a much longer story with more choices, but I realised that with so many different pathways, each individual read would have to be shorter while the total amount of writing would be larger. What I found most challenging was perseverance. Once I had completed my planning, the only thing I had left was to write. However, once I put my mind to it and practised my time management skills, I was able to finish the project in time and without stress, being happy with my result. Most of the project was in Keynote where I wrote the story and in linked slides, as well as planning in Numbers, and aesthetic design in Procreate.

Entrepreneur Podcast

The name of my Creative Adventures project is the Entrepreneur Podcast and its purpose is to teach the skills and entrepreneur needs to be successful. I originally was planning to make a modification for a video game, but then I changed it to a podcast about entrepreneurs, because it is useful for people in the future. The things I found challenging was the time management and planning. The apps I used were pages for writing the script and GarageBand for the recording and editing.

Wonderful Wellbeing Podcast

The title for my project is “Wonderful Wellbeing”. My first project was to make an app to help kids with mathematics, but later I discovered that you needed an Mac to code an app for IOS so I modified my idea to making a podcast on maths. I again changed my idea to making a podcast on wellbeing as this would be very beneficial to people in the future. Something I thought that was challenging was to make my script as I needed to research about wellbeing and write around 600 to 700 words. The first apps I used to test my code on was Keynote to learn the code and use Swift to actually test my code. After my idea was changed to making a podcast, I used Safari to gather my information, I used Notes to write my script and I used Garageband to do my recording and make a jingle for my podcast.
