Audition Overview

We know that for some of you, this might be your very first audition, and for others, you may have some experience already. Either way, we’re here to support you and help you feel confident and prepared.

All students auditioning for Shrek the Musical will be singing, no matter which role you’re interested in. This includes ensemble, minor, and lead roles.

If you’ve selected a backstage role such as makeup, costume, or tech crew, you do not need to attend the audition days. We’ll share more information soon about interviews and your involvement in due course.

Audition Steps

Our audition process is made up of 4 key steps. Please read carefully to understand which parts apply to you:

  • Step 1 - Song & Movement (Compulsory): All students auditioning for Shrek the Musical will take part in a group performance of the song “Story of My Life” and a movement/dance audition. This is a required part of the process for everyone, no matter which role you’re interested in.

  • Step 2 - Solo Vocal Auditions (Optional): Senior Students who wish to be considered for lead or minor roles may choose to perform a solo audition. The song for solo auditions for our female students is: “I Know It’s Today”. For male students: “Big Bright Beautiful World”. Junior students, if we need to hear you sing solo, you may be invited to a special callback on Wednesday 27 August 2025.

  • Step 3 - Vocal Callbacks: Students being considered for lead roles will be notified via email on the evening of Saturday 23 August 2025.

  • Step 4 - Acting Callbacks: Students we would like to see more from will be notified via email on the evening of Monday 25 August 2025.
