The objective of the Parent Council is to help the College fulfill its educational responsibilities and to assist in the building of a community of parents, teachers and students.

The Parent Council meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, except for January and December. Meetings start at 7.30pm and are held in the staffroom.

Meetings are open, and visitors are welcome to attend.

The Parent Council provides a link between the staff, parents and students by:

a) Encouraging Opportunities for Social Interaction through events such as:

Event Date
Jazz & Shiraz
Volunteers Cocktail
Year 7 & 8 Grandparents Mass & Morning Tea
Art Expo
Best of the Fest
Morning tea for new parents, and other social functions;

b)
Assisting Parents in their roles as the primary educators of their children through seminars such as:
      Understanding your teenager;
      Computer media skills;
      Bullying;
      Motor Vehicles; and
      Drug Education.

c) Facilitating improved communication within the College community via:
      The Yidarra Football tipping competition; and
      Parent Year Representatives

In addition to the above, the Parent Council has provided financial support for specialised projects such as:
      Air-conditioning of the Education Support Unit;
      Air-conditioning of the Tony Curtis Centre;
      Operable walls in the Tony Curtis Centre;
      Financial donation for the 2004 music tour; and
      Provision of water chillers.

The main sources of funding include Parent Council Levy, the Yidarra Football Tipping Competition and pasta sales. Of our total income, approximately 75% is put directly back into the College through specialised projects such as those mentioned.

Parent Council membership is open to all parents of current College students and currently consists of 14 parents, 2 student representatives, and 3 senior College staff members. Membership is not restrictive, and we welcome new members both at the beginning or during the College year.
